Senators today unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The assurances of loyalty on the Presiding Officer of the Senate came on the heels of reports on Wednesday, that some aggrieved senators planned to impeach the Senate President, which was denied by the Presidency and the Senate.
Raising a point of order on the floor at plenary, a former leader of the senate, Yahaya Abdullahi, drew the attention of his colleagues to a publication which claimed that northern senators were behind the impeachment plot against Akpabio, as he disassociated himself and others from the fake news in circulation.
Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that cross sections of lawmakers -Sen. Abdul Ningi and Sen. Aminu Abass passed a confidence Vote on the entire leadership of the 10th Senate.
In his remarks, Senator Akpabio expressed gratitude for the support from his colleagues and assured them of his intention to provide good leadership.
