In recognition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence on Women and the Girl-Child, the Nigerian Senate has learnt its voice to strongly condemn all forms of violence against women and girls, stressing the need for more robust measures to safeguard their interests.
The lead sponsor of the motion, Senator Ireti Kingibe representing the FCT, called for faster dispensation of justice for victims of Gender Based Violence as she revealed the alarming statistics of GBV in Nigeria.
Adorning orange sashes as a symbol of solidarity for the advocacy, the lawmakers (Sen. Abdul Ningi, Sen. Natasha Akpoti), including the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, were united in their commitment to address this critical issue.
A minute’s silence was thereafter observed to honor the memory of all women and individuals who lost their lives due to violence.
