The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected calls for the resignation of the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu by the Labour Party and the Peopleās Democratic Democratic Party.
Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi in a statement issued today in Abuja asserted that the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party’s agent, Dino Melaye that the INEC Chairman allocated scores to parties is unfounded and irresponsible.
The CPS who noted that contrary to the views of both parties, results emanating from the States point to a free, fair and credible process. He further explained that there are laid down procedures for aggrieved parties or candidates to follow when they are dissatisfied about the outcome of an election.
He encouraged the aggrieved parties to approach the courts to express their concerns and wait for the matter to be addressed, adding that making inciting comments capable of causing violence or unrest in the country is misplaced and unacceptable.
Oyekanmi said it is only fair for aggrieved parties to allow the conclusion of the processes of the 2023 general election, which he noted are in their final stages of completion.
