The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development (MMSD), Gbemisola
Saraki has said that removing mining from exclusive to concurrent legislative
list as suggested by some groups in the country will bring about more
agitation for the removal of crude oil.
The minister who was represented by Patrick Ojeka Director Artisanal and
Small Scale Department of the Ministry, who made the disclosure at a
national summit of Women in Mining Nigeria (WIMIN) in Abuja, said already,
the oil producing states are agitating to control their resources, which is the
mainstay of the economy of the nation.
In her remarks, the Founder and National President Women in Mining Nigeria
(WIMIN), Janet Adeyemi called on the government to step up its effort in
helping women in mining access funds and making the process easy, insisting
that some of the female miners don’t have digital knowledge.
She further decried the high rate of illegal mining calling for more stiffer
punishment on offenders.
