FG suspends taxes for food commodities

The Federal Government has granted a 150-day duty-free import window for food commodities, as part of measures to crash high food prices in the country.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, who announced this yesterday at a news conference in Abuja, explained that the 150-day duty-free import includes the suspension of duties, tariffs and taxes for the importation of certain food commodities such as maize, husked brown rice, wheat and cowpeas, through land and sea borders.

According to the Agriculture Minister, under this arrangement, imported food commodities would be subjected to a Recommended Retail Price.
