The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a memo to print and distribute one million science textbooks to secondary schools across Nigeria.Â
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Abuja after FEC meeting, said the initiative was part of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) STEM program aimed at strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in the country.
The textbooks, focusing on key subjects will be distributed to all 774 local government areas, the nation’s 104 unity schools, and 122 special secondary schools.Â
Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the newly reassigned Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Utsev, stated that the Council approved N78.35 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of the Buruku/Gboko water supply project in Benue and the Greater Dutse water supply project in Jigawa.
According to him, both water supply schemes will be powered by solar as a deliberate effort to reduce carbon emissions and the impact of climate change.
