UN Human Rights Council Election

Nigeria was not snubbed in the 2024 UN Human Rights Council election, as some reports have claimed. Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga who made the clarification in a statement yesterday, explained that Nigeria did not stand as a candidate for this cycle of elections, just like it did not stand for election in 2023 when a Nigerian medium reported that the country earned three votes. According to him, given Nigeria’s continued leadership in fostering African unity, the nation focused on supporting the endorsed candidates to promote collective African representation, thus the regional bloc endorsed Benin and Gambia, both members of ECOWAS, for the 2025-2027 term.
EFCC Declares Oil Mogul Bolaji Akinduro Wanted Over Alleged Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared an oil mogul, Bolaji Akinduro, wanted over alleged fraud. The commission’s Spokesman, Dele Oyewale, in a statement at the weekend, said the 51 year old Akinduro, an indigene of Ondo State, whose last known address was 272, Patience Coker Street, Ajose Adeogun, Victoria Island, Lagos State, allegedly obtained money under false pretence and committed stealing by conversion. Abuja High Court Affirms Abure As Labour Party National Chairman

A Federal High Court in Abuja has returned Julius Abure as Labour Party’s National chairman. Delivering the judgement yesterday, Justice Emeka Nwite declared the 2024 Labour Party national convention held in Nnewi, which re-elected Abure, as valid, stating that the convention was in line with all laid down laws in Nigeria. Announcing this in a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, noted that Justice Nwite also ordered INEC to grant due recognition and all privileges to the Labour Party’s National Working Committee, as led by Abure.
