President Bola Tinubu on Sunday met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Abuja, during his tour of the West Africa region as the European country looks to diversify its trade partners and expand economic partnerships with Nigeria.
During bilateral discussions with the German Chancellor, Scholz, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu outlined his vision for transformative governance, as he called for increased cooperation between Nigeria and Germany, particularly in the areas of security, natural resources, education, and democracy.
President Tinubu stated, “Nigeria is still crawling, but we are determined to change the narrative and bring about a transformative government in the country.”
Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the German Chancellor on his part pushed for further improvement of Nigeria’s capacity to meet local needs in electricity infrastructure development, as well as calling for collaborations with Nigeria to help tackle regional and global issues such as migration and insecurity in the West African sub-region.
“We are also committed to joint initiatives with Nigeria when it comes to hydrogen. Together we are driving forward future production and use because hydrogen is the energy source of the future, and we will need a lot – for our economy and the energy transition.
The German Chancellor Scholz also met with West Africa’s regional bloc of ECOWAS Commission president, Omar Alieu Touray in Abuja and attend a German-Nigerian business forum in the economic hub of Lagos. He then heads to Ghana where he will end his trip on Tuesday.
