The Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, has said that the agency will implement new strategies, enhance cooperation, and foster greater collaboration to address the evolving trends in human trafficking across the country.
Speaking at NAPTIP’s headquarters while unveiling the activities for the 2024 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Prof. Waziri-Azi highlighted the theme, “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Trafficking in Persons.”
She detailed that the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed this observance in December 2013, to be marked annually on July 30th, aiming for coordinated responses to counter trafficking.
She noted that the activities lined up for this year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons in Nigeria, in collaboration with UNODC, IOM, ICMPD, and OHCHR, have been carefully selected to reflect the theme, and to create needed awareness and impactful sensitization to address concerns and reduce the vulnerability of potential trafficking victims.
