The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has handed over 21 minors rescued from traffickers at the Nigeria-Niger border to the Niger State Government for rehabilitation and reunification with their families.
Speaking during the handover today in Abuja, NAPTIP’s Director-General, Binta Lami Adamu Bello, confirmed that the children were intercepted by immigration officers in Yobe State while being trafficked to the Republic of Niger. The officers immediately transferred them to NAPTIP for further action.
Receiving the children on behalf of the state, Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian and Disaster Affairs, Ahmed Suleiman Yumu, expressed appreciation for NAPTIP’s efforts and condemned child trafficking. He assured that the state government would take necessary measures to reintegrate the children and prevent future occurrences.
NAPTIP however urged parents to be more vigilant and warned against entrusting their children to unknown individuals under the guise of education.
