Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu has said that the commission will be conducting a mock accreditation of voters in a bid to ensure the full functionality of the BVAS machine before the general election.
The Chairman who made the disclosure today at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from the 36 states of the Federation in Abuja, said the mock accreditation will hold on Saturday 4th February 2023 across 436 polling units nationwide.
He further noted that as at yesterday 26th January 2023, over 800 thousand PVCs have been collected, representing, adding that the commission will not hesitate to consider other measures to ensure all citizens get there PVCs.
Yakubu who reassured that the Commission will always be responsive to the needs of the electorate, noted that at the end of the exercise, the 436 BVAs machines involved will be reconfigured before they are deployed for the 2023 general election.
He also disclosed that movement of materials for the election to various locations nationwide is being concluded, as well as the training of officials will commence shortly and ongoing consultations with stakeholders will be intensified.
