The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Thursday, September 12, 2024, for the signing of the Peace Accord ahead of the Edo State Governorship election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed this during an extraordinary meeting with political parties in Abuja, said the signing which will take place in Benin City, Edo state, will be presided over by the NPC Chairman and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
He urged Political parties leaders to take note of the dates for the INEC Stakeholders meeting, the signing of the Peace Accord as well as implored them to mobilise their State Chairmen and candidates for participation.
Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the INEC Chairman also stated Mock Accreditation exercise will take place on September 10 to test BVAS deployment and result uploads.
The National Peace Committee (NPC) is expected to coordinate the Peace Accord which seeks to ensure the renewal of pledges for peaceful election country.
On his part, the National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yusuf Dantalle, said the forthcoming election was another opportunity to restore the confidence of Nigerians in the electoral process.
