The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has said that the Corp will partner with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to ensure that drivers who assault or knock down FRSC officers are prosecuted.
Speaking on Classic 94.3 FM Abuja during the station’s six-year anniversary celebration, Mohammed underscored the agency’s commitment to enhance road safety and reducing traffic-related fatalities.Â
With the onset of the Ember months, traditionally associated with a higher incidence of road accidents, the FRSC Boss announced the launch of a new mobile app aimed at enhancing road safety. According to him, the app will also allow passengers to report reckless driving in real time, further empowering the public to contribute to road safety.
He also highlighted the FRSC’s proactive measures to address fuel scarcity-related hazards, particularly the dangers posed by Transporting petrol in vehicles, adding that they have directed its enforcement teams to look out for vehicles carrying jerrycans of petrol.
Speaking on traffic rules compliance, particularly in Abuja, Mohammed admitted that the level of adherence is still low, identifying “arrogant ignorance” as a major issue, where drivers flout rules, they do not fully understand, as he appealed to road users to obey traffic rules.
The Corp Boss also discussed the FRSC’s efforts to combat overloading and enforce the use of speed limiters, particularly among commercial vehicles, adding that the FRSC is “coming down hard on this offense” to protect passengers and ensure safer roads.
