The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by President Bola Tinubu, today approved another N287.73 billion for the execution of 14 road projects across the country.
Briefing State House Correspondents after the 2nd day FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa today (Tuesday) in Abuja, Minister of works, David Umahi, said this is aside the 10 road projects approved at FEC on Monday totalling N885billion, all aimed at upgrading Nigeria’s road networks across various states.
Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Minister disclosed that the Council however stepped down for further scrutiny the request for the construction of permanent Headquarters for Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
On his part, Hon. Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, said FEC approved two significant memos, set to transform the nation’s health sector, one bordering on the ratification of the African Medicines Agency (AMA) treaty, noting that with the ratification, Nigeria joins Africa’s efforts to establish a common regulatory framework for medicines, medical products, and pharmaceuticals.
The Health Minister also revealed that FEC approved contracts worth ₦12 billion for the installation of advanced diagnostic equipment in six teaching hospitals across the country.
According to the Minister, the medical infrastructures includes the provision of three MRI machines and two CT scanners at key medical institutions: the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in Akwa Ibom, Federal Medical Center in Abeokuta, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile Ife, Federal Medical Center in Keffi, Modibbo Adamawa University Teaching Hospital in Yola, and the Federal Teaching Hospital in Kebbi.
Minister Pate highlighted that these investments are part of a broader effort to enhance healthcare infrastructure.
