On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump enacted a new travel ban affecting 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, and Yemen. This move marks the return of a highly debated policy from his first term.
President Trump announced that the decision was influenced by a makeshift flamethrower attack during a Jewish protest in Colorado, an incident U.S. authorities attributed to a man allegedly in the country illegally.
The move bans all travel to the United States by nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
Additionally, Trump implemented a partial ban on travelers from seven nations—Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela—allowing certain temporary work visas to be issued.
According to the White House, the bans will take effect on Monday.
