Tinubu Warns Developers Against Unauthorised construction, Protection of Infrastructure

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a clear warning to landowners and developers against erecting structures on federal infrastructure corridors without proper authorization, declaring that illegal developments will no longer be tolerated by his administration.

Speaking at the official commissioning of Phase 1, Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Lagos during the weekend, President Tinubu said the federal government would no longer compensate those who build unlawfully on designated public infrastructure routes.

President Tinubu called on community leaders, developers, and local authorities to adhere strictly to urban planning regulations, saying violations not only pose serious threats to infrastructure integrity but also endanger lives and impede economic development.

Earlier, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded the project, describing it as a “generational gift” that would transform Nigeria’s economic and security future.
Turning his attention to state governors, Akpabio advised those nearing the end of their tenure to prioritize competence in succession planning.

In his remarks, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as an unprecedented transformation of Nigeria’s road infrastructure, declaring that the President’s commitment is “laying the foundation for a more connected, secure and economically vibrant Nigeria.”

He presented the first 30 kilometres of the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing it as a symbolic preview of what lies ahead.

Umahi also revealed that nine projects would be commissioned alongside the Lagos-Calabar Highway, with an additional three new ones being flagged off. Among the new flag-offs are the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesha Road (108km, N300 billion), the Ilesha-Akure-Benin Road (231km dual carriageway), and the Nembe-Brass Road (21km, N126 billion).
