TCN Restores National Grid Following Partial Disturbance

News

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the full restoration of the national grid after experiencing a partial disturbance at approximately 11:21 a.m. on Sunday. Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager Public Affairs, stated that the company promptly initiated the restoration process for the affected part of the grid.

Prior to the incident, the total generation on the grid was reported to be 3,901.25 Mega Watts (MW) at 8 a.m., just over three hours before the partial collapse. Mbah highlighted the ongoing challenge of low power generation since January, attributing it to persistent gas constraints.

The National Control Centre (NCC) reported that, just before the partial disturbance at Sapele, Steam, and Egbin Substations, there was a loss of 29.32MW and 343.84MW at 11:20:14 hrs and 11:20:17 hrs, respectively, totaling 373.16MW. Sufficient generation capacity is crucial for effective grid management in the face of sudden losses.

Mbah affirmed that TCN would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the tripping of the Sapele Steam and Egbin power generating units. The restoration of the national grid reflects the company’s commitment to maintaining a stable and reliable power supply in Nigeria.
