One of Britain’s most distinguished and versatile actors, Timothy West, has died at the age of 90. A statement released by his children said the actor died “peacefully in his sleep” and was “with his friends and family at the end”. Somaliland has held its presidential election, at a time when the breakaway Somali region sees international recognition within reach after three decades of defacto self-rule. President Muse Abdi, in power since 2017, is standing for re-election against the main opposition party’s candidate, Abdirahman Cirro. Somaliland, which occupies a strategic position near the entryway to the Red Sea, declared independence from the Mogadishu government in 1991, but has not been recognised by any other country, restricting access to international finance and the ability of its 6 million people to travel. Federal Government seeks $10bn private sector support in power industry
Federal Government plans to source from the private sector, part of the 10 billion dollars required to provide regular electricity across Nigeria within the next five to 10 years. This formed the crux of the deliberation when the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, in Abuja. The duo agreed that in view of the funding and technical requirement needed to advance the power sector in Nigeria, it had become imperative to seek private sector input through Public Private Partnership in co-financing and providing expertise that will ensure optimal performance of power infrastructure.
