US President-elect Donald Trump made a triumphant return to Washington yesterday, to meet with long-time political rival, outgoing President Joe Biden.  Biden told the president-elect “congratulations,” adding that he looked “forward to a smooth transition” of power.  Trump is moving quickly to build his incoming administration, having already announced some members of his new cabinet’s administration.  Trump has nominated Congressman Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard for Director Of National Intelligence, Senator Marco Rubio to be Secretary Of State, Pete Hegseth – a Fox News host and Army veteran – as Defence Secretary, and John Ratcliffe as head of the CIA.  Republicans have again, secured majority control of the House of Representatives, solidifying leadership of both chambers of Congress.  The party voted to return Mike Johnson as Speaker and Steve Scalise as House Majority Leader in the next Congress, which begins in January.
