A last-minute goal from Tawanda Chirewa denied Nigeria victory as Zimbabwe secured a 1-1 draw in their Group C World Cup qualifier yesterday.
Victor Osimhen had put Nigeria ahead in the 73rd minute with a well-placed header from Ola Aina’s cross, until Chirewa struck in the 90th minute.
With the result, the Super Eagles remain in fourth in Group C on Seven points, while South Africa lead the standings on 13 points after a 2-nil win over third place Benin republic. Nigeria’s next fixture on Sept. 1, when they host Amavubis of Rwanda will be a crucial opportunity to regain momentum as they continue their World Cup qualifying campaign, before they travel to take on log leaders South Africa on Sept. 8 on matchday 8.
