Stakeholders Call for Collective Action on Drug Abuse, Mental Health

Stakeholders have renewed calls for greater collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and the promotion of mental health, describing both as critical to individual well-being, community stability, and national development.

At a recent public engagement organised by the Board of Fellows of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (BOF-PSN), key speakers underscored the urgent need for holistic interventions to address the growing concerns of substance misuse and mental health challenges across the country.

The Chairman of the BOF-PSN noted that basic human rights are intrinsically linked to personal development, community well-being, and socio-economic growth. He assured that the board would intensify awareness campaigns on drug abuse across all parts of Nigeria to ensure citizens understand the dangers and consequences associated with substance misuse.

In his remarks, the Charman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), special Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), highlighted the far-reaching consequences of drug abuse on families and communities.

Marwa who described pharmacists as vital partners in promoting public health and strengthening drug control, commended the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria for its recent efforts in sanitising the retail drug sector through the enactment of the Pharmacists Council Bill Act 2023.
