South Korea and Japan have condemned recent Chinese-Russian military patrols near their territories, with both nations scrambling jets. The patrols involved Russian Tu-95 bombers and Chinese H-6 bombers, which flew over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea.
Japan called the flights a direct show of force, while South Korea lodged formal complaints after the planes entered its air defense zone (KADIZ). Both countries urged China and Russia to address their security concerns.
The joint patrols are part of regular military exercises between China and Russia but have heightened tensions, especially amid Japan’s ongoing dispute with China over Taiwan-related remarks.
