President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has said that lawmakers were elected to collaborate with the Executive in pursuit of national development rather than to engage in constant confrontation.
Speaking in a forthcoming documentary marking two years of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Akpabio described the role of the National Assembly as pivotal in driving policies that reflect the aspirations of Nigerians, as he credited the relatively smooth relationship between the legislature and the Executive to a common vision shared by both arms of government.
The Senate President bemoaned the decline of Nigeria’s once-thriving industrial base, citing the collapse of sectors like textiles, cotton, groundnut, and palm oil.
Akpabio also assured Nigerians that the 10th National Assembly would continue to pass laws aimed at improving living conditions and unlocking economic opportunities.
Akpabio who stressed the need to support local entrepreneurs, pointing to everyday products like vinegar and bread as viable business opportunities, dismissed claims that the National Assembly merely rubber-stamps Executive proposals, citing instances where presidential nominees were rejected.
