President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians in Diaspora to actively contribute to the nation’s development, urging them not to stay away at a time when, according to him, “Nigeria is on the rise again.”
He made the appeal on Thursday during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Yokohama, Japan on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).
Addressing a gathering of professionals, entrepreneurs, and students, President Tinubu highlighted his administration’s strides in economic reform, infrastructure, and governance, stressing that national development is a shared responsibility and that the expertise, investment, and patriotism of the Diaspora community are crucial for Nigeria’s progress.
President Tinubu assured the audience of ongoing improvements back home, citing reforms that have stabilized the economy, enhanced passport processing, and upgraded healthcare facilities. He noted that these efforts are already encouraging some Nigerians abroad to return and invest in the country’s growth.
Several government officials, including ministers and heads of agencies, accompanied the President and spoke on their portfolios’ achievements. His nephew, Wale Tinubu, also addressed the gathering, explaining how recent reforms have boosted business competitiveness and investor confidence.
The event concluded with expressions of support from Nigerian community leaders in Japan, who pledged to explore greater engagement with the homeland. President Tinubu encouraged them to serve as positive ambassadors, stating that true citizenship lies not just in holding a passport but in unwavering commitment to national progress.
