President Tinubu Returns to Nigeria After Diplomatic Visits to France and South Africa

By Trust Inonse

President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja following his recent official trips to France and South Africa, aimed at enhancing diplomatic and economic relations. His aircraft landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 9:10 PM, where he was welcomed by senior government officials, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Tinubu’s trip to France was at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.

   – The leaders signed agreements focused on:

     – Developing critical infrastructure.

     – Ensuring long-term agricultural and food security.

   – The visit also included discussions on various sectors such as security, education, health, youth engagement, and energy transition.

   – Following his time in France, Tinubu traveled to Cape Town to co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) with President Cyril Ramaphosa.

   – The BNC, established in 1999, aims to foster cooperation in areas like diplomacy, trade, and security.

   – During the meeting, Tinubu sought South Africa’s support for Nigeria’s bid to join the G20, a premier international forum for economic cooperation. Ramaphosa expressed strong support for Nigeria’s membership, emphasizing the need for greater African representation in the G20.

This trip marks President Tinubu’s 33rd foreign visit since taking office 18 months ago, during which he has accumulated significant diplomatic engagement across various countries. His administration continues to prioritize international partnerships to bolster Nigeria’s economic and political standing on the global stage.
