President Bola Tinubu Highlights Nigeria's Commitment to Sustainable Development at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week

President Bola Tinubu has re-emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to sustainability and its role in shaping a global energy future.

Speaking to an international audience of leaders, policymakers, and climate advocates, in Abu Dhabi, UAE, President Tinubu acknowledged the critical need for global collaboration to address the challenges of climate change and economic development.

President Tinubu assured that Nigeria is ready to work with other nations to build a resilient, equitable, and sustainable world for all.

Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that President Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s pledge to a sustainable future through its energy transition plan, which focuses on reducing reliance on fossil fuels and embracing cleaner energy sources, reiterating an ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, thus aligning with global climate objectives.

“We have embraced a vision of sustainability that aligns with global aspirations while addressing local realities. Our efforts are anchored on three pillars: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development. My administration recognises the importance of reducing carbon emissions and a just transition to clean and renewable energy, promoting environmental sustainability and economic growth.

He added that Nigeria is developing infrastructure for the widespread use of Compressed Natural Gas and electric vehicles and harnessing the potential in solid minerals to support the green energy transition.
