The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991, following a meeting with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The suspension comes ahead of a Federal High Court hearing on October 16, 2025, in Warri, as both parties discussed promoting rule of law and public trust. While no court has explicitly halted the law, the police cited public interest and NBA engagement for the temporary pause.
A joint Police-NBA committee has been formed to strengthen cooperation. Meanwhile, motorists are urged to regularize their vehicle documentation.
The IGP reaffirmed the police’s commitment to fair, transparent law enforcement in collaboration with key justice stakeholders.
