News

INEC presents Certificates of Return to Aiyedatiwa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally presented Certificates of Return to the winners of the November 16, 2024, Ondo state Governorship elections, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy governor Dr. Olayide Adelami of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The event, which took place at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday, had dignitaries including the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC); Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; and other party dignitaries in attendance.

In his remarks, the INEC National Commissioner for Ondo State, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, who presented the certificates to the winners, said the Ondo election was very peaceful, noting that the issuance of Certificate of Return is a constitutional requirement in Nigeria and that the presentation is to remind the Governor-elect of the enormous task of servitude ahead.

Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that Governor Aiyedatiwa, speaking after receiving his certificate, expressed profound gratitude to the people of Ondo State, commended security agencies for their professionalism and the electorate for their peaceful conduct, pledging to deliver even greater service to Ondo State.

Speaking with journalists after the ceremony, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje hailed the election outcome as a victory for democracy and the All Progressives Congress (APC).  He emphasized the party’s commitment to delivering dividends of democracy in APC-led states while expressing optimism about reclaiming opposition-held states in the Southwest through democratic means.
