Bendel Insurance will forfeit three points and three goals for assault on match officials during their 1-0 home loss to Kano Pillars last Saturday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City. The Nigeria Premier Football League also fined the club N2 million for failing to provide adequate and effective security as well as failing to ensure proper conduct of their supporters during the game.
The Benin City club will pay another N1 million fine for misconduct capable of bringing the game to disrepute, and further pay a fine of N250,000 each to the assaulted match officials, Adeniyi Adewale, Anuoluwapo Balogun and Sodiq Sonibare.
Similarly, the NPFL has fined Plateau United ₦4.7m and handed the club a three-point deduction over crowd violence in the side’s November 11 match against Enugu Rangers.
Some players and officials of Enugu Rangers were injured in an attack by suspected fans of Plateau United with viral videos and photos on social media showing some of them bleeding.
The clubs have 48 hours from the date of notice to appeal the sanctions.
