The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has revealed that the Federal Government is setting the stage for a robust response to document and immigration fraud, with plans underway to establish a central verification system that will streamline real-time authentication processes.
Tunji-Ojo who disclosed this today (Tuesday) in Abuja while hosting the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, David Hanson, said the absence of a unified system for document verification has created loopholes that fraudsters exploit.
The Minister described the situation as one that unfairly projects a negative image of the country, despite the law-abiding conduct of the majority. He explained that the planned centre will serve as a single portal for verifying key documents such as bank statements, passports, birth certificates, and others.
Responding, Hanson expressed the UK’s interest in deepening collaboration with Nigeria across several fronts, especially in criminal justice reforms, also highlighting ongoing discussions around migration policy, skill development, and trade partnerships.
