The Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has called for a clear and unified language policy in Nigeria’s education system to enhance learning outcomes and promote inclusivity across all levels of schooling.
Speaking at the Language in Education International Conference in Abuja, Alausa said the choice of language as a medium of instruction remains central to the success of education delivery in the country.
The minister explained that while evidence supports the use of mother tongue in early education, Nigeria must decide carefully on the most suitable language for teaching across its diverse contexts.
In her remarks, the Country Director of the British Council Nigeria, Donna McGowan, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Ministry of Education to strengthen the role of language in national development.
