Nigeria joined 106 countries at the UN General Assembly to back a resolution supporting Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
The Assembly adopted the resolution, “Support for lasting peace in Ukraine,” with 107 votes in favour, 12 against and 51 abstentions. The measure demands an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, prisoner exchanges and the return of deported civilians, including children. It also reaffirms Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
UN Secretary-General AntĂłnio Guterres condemned the war as a violation of international law and urged nations to push harder for peace.
At the Security Council, Ukraine accused Russia of targeting civilians and rejected any territorial concessions, while Russia defended its actions and called for talks based on what it described as new realities on the ground.
