The Federal Government has officially launched an initiative tagged the “Nutrition 774” to combat malnutrition among children across the nation.
Speaking at the 148th National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Kashim Shettima urged state governors, ministers, local government chairmen, and other stakeholders to take decisive action to tackle malnutrition in Nigeria, while stating statistics that indicate that about 40% of Nigerian children under five are suffering from stunting, 8% from wasting, and 27% from underweight.
Briefing State House Correspondents after the NEC meeting, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, said the federal, state, and local government officials signed a pact pledging to support the actualisation of the mission to tackle malnutrition across all 774 local government areas.
Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun highlighted Federal government’s efforts at stabilizing the economy which the State Governors commended.
He also disclosed that the key economic priorities for 2025, will be focused on stabilizing the Nigerian economy, boosting agriculture, enhancing energy security, and improving infrastructure.
On his part, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu provided an update on Nigeria’s financial accounts within the month of February, 2025.
According to the governor, Excess Crude Account balance is over 473 thousand dollars, while the Stabilization Account stands at 67.2 billion naira, and the Natural Resource Account reflects a balance of 36.25 billion naira.
