Nigeria’s telecom regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has directed mobile operators to notify consumers of significant service disruptions via media platforms.
According to a statement by its Acting Head of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, operators are expected to disclose the cause of the outage, the affected areas, and the estimated time for service restoration, through its Major Outage Reporting Portal via its website, to track and publicly disclose outage information.
Consumers will receive proportional compensation for outages lasting over 24 hours.
The move is part of efforts to safeguard critical national infrastructure, and aims to improve consumer experience and ensure accountability.
