National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has barred the trending song “Tell Your Papa” by veteran rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, from airing on radio and television stations in the country, citing its “objectionable nature.”
In a memo issued by the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, the NBC declared the track a Not To Be Broadcast, under Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
According to the NBC, while the song has gained momentum across social media platforms, its lyrical content fails to meet the standards of responsible broadcasting.
Meanwhile, Eedris has reacted to the ban in an Instagram post describing it as an attempt to silence the truth and suppress criticism.
While likening the ban to the 2004 censorship of his iconic protest song Jaga Jaga, the outspoken singer accused President Tinubu’s administration of being “insensitive and vindictive.”
