MTEF/FSP: Senate President Seeks Sack of Absentee Heads of MDAs at Public Hearing

Blog, News

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has said Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that fail to appear to defend their inputs in the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) risk being sacked by President Bola Tinubu.

The Senate President gave the warning at the opening of a 5-day public hearing on the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, organized by the Senate joint committees on finance, appropriation, national planning and economic affairs and local content and foreign debts,

Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Senate President also lamented alleged frivolous expenditures by MDAS, particularly the Government Owned Enterprises (GOES), noting that in view of the current economic realities, borrowing cannot be totally avoided but budget deficits require collective assessment towards increasing revenue generation and blocking of leakages.

Earlier at the opening session, the Chairman Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa said 2024-2026 MTEF and FSP document represents a critical roadmap that charts the economic and finance course of the country for upcoming years 2024-2026, adding that the Senate joint Committee resolved to continue with investigations targeted at blocking revenue leakages and curbing frivolous expenditures by MDAS.

Some Revenue-generating agencies appeared before the joint Committee, made submissions and presented their projected revenues for the three-year period of 2024-2026.
