Lagos State Government to Complete Psychiatric Hospital in Epe by Next Year

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to complete the construction of the Psychiatric Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute located in Epe by the end of next year. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this announcement during a recent visit to the site, emphasizing the importance of the facility in enhancing mental healthcare delivery in the state.

The psychiatric hospital, which will have a capacity of 500 beds, is designed to be the largest psychiatric rehabilitation center in sub-Saharan Africa. It is part of a broader initiative to address mental health challenges in the region.

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the project is currently about 50% complete. The first phase includes various facilities such as consultation rooms, dormitories, dining areas, and accommodations.

This hospital is expected to provide comprehensive mental health services, including psychotherapy and rehabilitation, in a serene environment conducive to recovery. The governor highlighted the growing need for mental health services, particularly in light of increasing mental health issues.

The governor expressed confidence that the facility would be completed by the fourth quarter of 2025, with ongoing efforts to ensure timely progress.

The establishment of this psychiatric hospital is a significant step towards improving mental health care in Lagos State, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing health challenges in the community.
