The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has disclosed that over ₦6 billion was generated in 2024 from expatriate quota fees, marriages, citizenship applications, and places of worship.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on the ministry’s 2024 performance, Tunji-Ojo noted that the figure reflects more than 50% increase compared to the previous year.
He also highlighted innovations in visa processing, including the establishment of a Visa Approval Center in Abuja and the integration of Interpol’s database for applicant profiling. According to him, over 1.8 million passports were issued in 2024, along with the clearance of a backlog of 200,000 applications and the repatriation of 828 foreigners.
Tunji-Ojo further revealed that at least 180 disciplinary cases were resolved across various services in 2024. He added that workforce development efforts led to the promotion of 32,640 officers in 2023, followed by 20,851 promotions in 2024.
Looking ahead, the minister pledged to sustain reforms by enhancing operational efficiency and leveraging technology to achieve national security and administrative goals.
