The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the timelines for the Anambra State Governorship election and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council polls, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, and Saturday, February 21, 2026, respectively.
Speaking during the first quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stressed the need for adherence to the set timelines, adding that the elections would cover all 68 constituencies, with six Chairmen and 62 Councillors to be elected in the FCT.
Speaking On bye-elections, Professor Yakubu raised concerns over the increasing frequency and financial burden, noting that over the past year, 14 new vacancies have arisen due to unforeseen circumstances, placing additional strain on the Commission’s resources.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, urged INEC to reject the outcomes of conventions that violate party constitutions. He also called on the judiciary to maintain neutrality in resolving intra-party disputes, describing it as “the last hope of the aggrieved.”
