Nigeria to Launch Transformational National Single Window on March 27

The Federal Government has finalized plans to launch the National Single Window (NSW) platform on March 27, 2026, marking a “monumental” shift in Nigeria’s fiscal and trade landscape. During a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the State House, Abuja on Wednesday, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, emphasized that the initiative—first championed by President Bola Tinubu nearly two years ago—aims to eliminate the bureaucratic bottlenecks of multiple agency windows. By consolidating trade procedures into a single digital portal, the administration expects to drastically improve Nigeria’s global competitiveness and ease of doing business.

The first phase of the rollout focuses on total automation to eliminate human intervention and corruption.
NSW Coordinator Mr. Tola Fakolade revealed that the “go-live” version will feature online processing of import permits and the electronic submission of cargo manifests. Crucially, the system introduces a centralized risk management framework where documents are submitted once and automatically shared across all relevant agencies, thus reduce the time and cost currently associated with clearing goods at Nigerian ports and borders.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi, hailed the project as a historic milestone for maritime and border security. To prevent technical glitches during the transition, nationwide user training is currently underway, and pilot testing is scheduled to commence shortly. The initiative brings together a massive inter-agency network, including NPA, NIMASA, NAFDAC, SON, and FAAN, all of whom are now mandated to synchronize their operations under the single digital umbrella. As the March 27 deadline approaches, the Ministry of Trade has been tasked with an intensive 21-day sensitization campaign to educate traders, importers, and exporters on the new protocols.
