The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening emergency medical services across Nigeria, with a particular focus on rural areas.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, addressing Nigerians on the state of emergency response in the country, acknowledged that while preventative care remains a priority, the government recognizes the inevitability of sudden medical emergencies.
Prof. Pate who decried Nigeria’s alarming maternal mortality rate as a major concern, revealed that, to address these concerns, the Government has inaugurated the National Emergency Medical Treatment Committee and tasked it with expanding access to urgent medical care.
Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that in order to bridge existing gaps, Prof. Pate says the government has partnered with several states, including Rivers, Bauchi, and Plateau, to develop and operationalize state emergency medical and ambulance services.
