FG Declares Amnesty for Visa Overstayers, Urges Prompt Regularization

The Federal Government has announced an amnesty window for foreigners residing in Nigeria with expired immigration status, urging them to take advantage of the opportunity to regularize their stay without facing penalties.

The initiative, known as the Expired Visa Initiative (Amnesty), was announced by the Ministry of Interior in collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) as part of efforts to boost compliance with Nigeria’s New Visa Regime and strengthen the nation’s migration system.

A statement issued during the weekend by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, explained that the initiative specifically targets foreign nationals who have overstayed their visas or violated the conditions of their entry permits.

The amnesty applies to individuals with Expired Visa on Arrival (VoA), holders of Expired Single and Multiple-Entry Visas, and those with an Expired Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC), where the renewal has exceeded 30 days after expiration.

The NIS urged all affected individuals to regularize their stay by applying through the designated portal, https://amnesty.immigration.gov.ng, before the deadline to avoid incurring penalties.

To facilitate a smooth application process, the Service has set up a dedicated support team, which can be reached via email at amnesty@immigration.gov.ng.
