In a resolute stance against ransom payments for the release of abducted victims, the Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated that no ransom was paid to secure the freedom of the recently kidnapped schoolchildren from Kuriga village in Kaduna State.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Monday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
“As promised by Mr. President, they have been rescued. No ransom was paid,” the Minister stated emphatically.
He conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Service Chiefs, and all individuals who played pivotal roles in ensuring the safe release of the students.
President Tinubu had previously vowed that the Federal Government would not entertain any demands for ransom to secure the release of abducted victims. This reaffirmation underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to confronting the scourge of kidnapping head-on, without succumbing to the demands of criminal elements.
Furthermore, the Minister revealed that President Tinubu has charged security agencies to redouble their efforts in addressing the menace of kidnapping across the country.
This directive highlights the government’s determination to implement proactive measures to prevent future incidents and safeguard the lives and security of all citizens.
