The Federal Government yesterday promised to pay the backlog of the new N77,000 monthly allowance to National Youth Service Corps members, including to those who may have completed the service months prior, and those in the scheme when the increment was announced in September 2024.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who gave this assurance when he was featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today last night, however, did not specify the timeframe for the payment of the backlog, but corroborated the announcement by the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Olakunle Nafiu, who had last week promised corps members to expect the implementation of the new allowance in March this year.
The Federal Government increased corps members’ allowance from N33,000 to N77,000 in September 2024, but despite repeated promises since the increment, the new rate is yet to be implemented.
