Barely 48hrs after Nurses and Midwives in Nigeria embarked on a Seven-day nationwide warning strike, over poor welfare and demand for institutional reforms, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Ali Pate has reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of health workers.
Briefing State House Correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, Dr Pate emphasized that the government is working to find solutions to the disputes, citing recent withdrawals of contentious circulars and ongoing negotiations to address health workers’ concerns.
He stated that the government aims to maintain peace and harmony in the sector, recognizing the crucial role health workers play in the healthcare system, adding that discussions with union leaders are scheduled to resolve outstanding issues, including those related to wages, allowances, and working conditions, to ensure lasting peace and continued improvement in healthcare services.(Cue in: FEC on Nurses)Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Health minister disclosed that FEC approved the upgrade of the existing Oncology center at University College Hospital, Ibadan
with state-of-the-art equipment like Linear Accelerator therapy to the tune of N3.7billion, in addition to already established ones in Katsina, Enugu, and other locations, demonstrating tangible results of the President’s vision to transform the healthcare sector.
