1,249 communities across 176 Local Government Areas in 33 states are at high risk of flooding in 2025.

Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, who disclosed this during yesterday’s presentation of the 2025 Annual Flood Outlook, identified high-risk category States as Lagos, Abia, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Imo, Gombe and the FCT.

The Minister therefore urged stakeholders to support government efforts in building flood-resilient communities and affirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to proactive flood management.
