The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation is set to collaborate with the National Population Commission to ensure the availability of accurate and detailed data.
The Minister, Dr. Betta Edu, who made the disclosure during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Hon. Nasiru Isah Kwarra in Abuja on Monday, noted that one of the key aspects of the collaboration is the establishment of a technical committee between the ministry and the National Population Commission to ensure the successful implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of census activities, particularly at the grassroots level.
She further noted that the commission’s data on the total number of Nigerians and specific demographics related to poverty will be instrumental in shaping interventions to address poverty and humanitarian issues in the country.
The Chairman of the National Population Commission, Hon. Nasiru Isah Kwarra stressed the importance of conducting a national census to obtain accurate population data rather than relying on estimates, as well as reassured the public that the commission’s data is securely protected and that measures are in place to safeguard it.
The Chairman further noted the availability of geospatial data, which includes information about buildings, facilities, water bodies, and population distribution.
