Federal Government Launches Govmail to Enhance Communication in Civil Service

The Federal Government has introduced  a new email platform aimed at improving communication management within the public sector. The announcement was made by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who also celebrated her 100 days in office.

During the launch, Walson-Jack unveiled three digital service platforms for the civil service: Govmail, ServiceWise GPT and the Federal Civil Service Online Portal. This initiative reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to advancing digital governance and innovation within Nigeria’s Federal Civil Service.

Govmail, developed and powered by Galaxy Backbone (GBB), promises to enhance communication, boost efficiency, and accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation in the public sector. Walson-Jack expressed her enthusiasm for the platform, stating, “GBB’s Govmail is unbelievably wow. This is a game-changer for our nation’s civil service, streamlining communication and creating a secure path to other government digital services. With Govmail, we are truly embracing the future of digital governance.”

Designed specifically for public service professionals, Govmail is a secure, Nigeria-centric email platform that ensures seamless management of official communications while protecting the country’s data sovereignty. The initiative is a significant outcome of the Digitalisation War Room, established by Walson-Jack to implement advanced digital solutions in government.

Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, highlighted the platform’s importance, stating, “We are immensely proud to have developed this revolutionary platform, ensuring that every Nigerian civil servant has access to a robust and secure communication channel. Govmail is not just about email—it’s about enabling productivity, efficiency, and sovereignty in governance. Galaxy Backbone remains committed to driving the digital transformation of Nigeria’s public sector.”

Faruk Yusuf Yabo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, emphasized Govmail’s strategic importance, noting that it significantly reduces the government’s reliance on foreign email services, thereby cutting costs and addressing licensing issues. He commended the Head of Service and Galaxy Backbone’s leadership for this achievement.

Through GBB’s dedicated efforts, Govmail will swiftly provide email accounts to over 70,000 federal civil servants nationwide, ensuring that every government professional has access to a secure communication platform. This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s goal of leveraging technology to build a digitally driven and globally competitive public service.
