The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved two landmark projects totaling ₦213.7 billion aimed at improving electricity supply to universities, teaching hospitals, and rural communities.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who made this known while briefing newsmen after FEC meeting, presided over by President Bola Tinubu, in Abuja
said the first approval covers the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts under the Energizing Education Program worth ₦145 Billion, funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund.
The Minister said the initiative targets eight universities and their affiliated teaching hospitals, aiming to relieve them of crippling energy costs and frequent blackouts due to unaffordable electricity bills.
The Minister of Power disclosed that the second power project, valued at ₦68.7 billion, focuses on rural electrification through Agricultural Centres of Excellence Solar-powered systems aimed to energize off-grid communities, lighting homes and powering agricultural processing clusters, with a completion period of three months.
Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa announced the approval of the Renewed Hope Cultural Project, a nationwide initiative to boost tourism and creative industries.
The project she said, will establish Cultural Villages in all 36 states, showcasing local heritage and creativity, with each state tailoring its own vision.
Musawa said the federal government has signed MOUs with several states and plans to expand the initiative nationwide, involving private sector partners with the right of first refusal.
