The President who gave the assurance at the just concluded 2024 African Union Mid-Year Coordination meeting, in Accra, Ghana, said ECOWAS will continue to make efforts to engage with Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, so as to maintain unity, while disclosing that the community will convene a special extra-ordinary summit on the future of the bloc.
The President noted that the bloc faces multiple threats, including member states withdrawal, geopolitical rivalries, terrorism, food insecurity, climate change, and the spread of misinformation and disinformation.
Earlier, in his remarks, Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo called for innovative financing and the enhancement of Africa’s internal financial resources to achieve a resilient ecosystem that is less dependent on external financial institutions.
