The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed recent foreign assertions and social media reports on terrorist activities in Nigeria, reaffirming that the country’s military decisions are guided strictly by credible field intelligence.
This comes in the wake of remarks by the Turkish Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, who alleged that the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO), which Turkey designates as a terror group, continues to operate in Nigeria under the guise of educational and healthcare institutions.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja today, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, stated that unofficial comments from foreign individuals or groups suggesting external links to terrorism in Nigeria hold no operational relevance for the military.
Giving an update on operations within the review period, Major General Kangye disclosed that in the South South region alone, troops arrested over 40 oil thieves, dismantled 19 illegal oil refining sites, and uncovered 32 dugout pits, among several other achievements.
In the fight against other criminal groups across the country, he reported that 12 collaborators were apprehended, 30 kidnapped victims were rescued, and over 130 suspected terrorists were arrested. Several others were neutralized during various operations.
